MICRO-SITE WARkshop was a 5-days interior design workshop led by WAR at IED Rome. The students confronted the up-and-coming movement of grocery shopping’s experience towards a smaller and more exciting form. They were introduced to the importance of grocery shopping in our everyday life while being a significant phenomenon that is unappreciated by designers and architects. BEST products projects by SITE were shown as an initial point for the students’ actions, a case study pushing their design process out of the box. Today, the customer is no longer a suburbs resident in his private car on the highway seeking for grandiose shopping centers, instead, he is a city dweller walking by foot with his Instagram account in his pocket looking for an urban attraction that will be practical and exciting. The five groups presented unique concepts for the micro markets of the future combining an uncommon facade with a contemporary interior trying to get the people offline and in-store. As designers in the making, they should have the understanding that society’s needs are ever-changing and therefore its desires and demands.
